Field Twenty–Four, Agreement, Muwafiqa
From the field of Contentment the field of Agreement is generated. Allah Most High says, ‘So decree whatever you desire to decree.’ (20:72)
Agreement (Muwafiqa) is welcoming God’s command with an open heart.
Contentment (Rida, field twenty-three) is after God’s mandate has been revealed, whereas even before it is revealed one welcomes with agreement (Muwafiqa) God’s mandate and will.
Agreement involves three things:
One is elimination of one’s own selfish desire and free will.
Next is to truly recognize God’s mercy.
And then, ceasing to be concerned about one’s own personal will and pleasure or even about this world or the hereafter.
The elimination of one’s own selfish desire and free will has three signs:
The first is to receive and take fortune and misfortune with the same poise.
The second is to consider advantage and disadvantage, profit and loss as equal.
The third is to regard life and death as the same.
The signs of recognizing God’s mercy are threefold:
That God pours joy in one’s heart that washes away all sorrow
That He bestows light that washes away all attachments
That He bestows proximity to Himself that washes away all separation from Him.
The signs of ceasing to be concerned about one’s own personal desire and pleasure, and about this world and the next are also threefold.
One is when all one’s needs are related and directed to God.
When no veil remains in one’s heart that veils Him.
When no desire enters into one’s heart.
Whoever remains calm in the face of God’s decree and command through fear is patient.
Whoever remains calm in the face of God’s decree through hope is content.
Whoever remains calm in the face of God’s decree through love lives in agreement (Muwafiqa) with His will.
Masha’allah this is an excellent field to contemplate just before the Ramadan. It is self-evident and I do not feel it needs commenting upon.
Ya Muwafiqa Ya Hu O Allah please turn our hearts to be in agreement with You!
